Whooping cough, also known as pertussis, has been on the rise in California, resulting in a number of infant deaths. There is a vaccine series that children receive to help protect against diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis called DTaP. This series begins in infancy and is usually completed around age 5. Because immunity can fade 5 to 10 years after the last vaccination, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends a single dose of Tdap vaccine for people ages 11 to 64.
The Pediatric Group currently offers this vaccine to adults and strongly encourages parents and caretakers of infants to receive it. Please contact our office for more information or to schedule an appointment to receive the vaccine and help stop the spread of pertussis.
